Camping by the dunes
Monahans Sandhills State Park Campsite 22 Wonderful, small park. Very quiet and dark. Lovely dunes, which you camp right beside. Excellent shower. Gorgeous sunset. Our site (22) was very private - we backed up to a dune. We didn't have to unhitch (our 25 ft trailer barely fit). The park is right off I-20 so it was a perfect stop for us. $27 includes $15 camping fee, plus $4 per adult entry fee. Gravel campsites, with no shade

Little White Sands
Cool little spot for an hour or two with the kids. But be forewarned it is a workout to get up those dunes if you want to slide down. You can rent discs to slide down for $6 each on top of the $10 per person entry fee. We chose to not buy wax for discs (don’t know how much it was) and that was probably a mistake. I only weigh 165# and I couldn’t really slide down. We’ve been to White Sands NP in New Mexico and the sliding was awesome without the wax. But, the dunes are much taller too. It’s not WSNP but there is a little picnic area with covered tables and grills. There’s also RV camp sites available and for an overnight stay it would probably be nice this time of year. NO WAY am I visiting or camping when temps are over 80!
