The one thing you won't find at this park is crowds: a quiet, beautiful area lined with trails for hiking and biking.

Our troop stayed here for a weekend Shelter campout. Unfortunately it was wet for a majority of the weekend but that didn't deter us. First, there are little to no lighting here at night. If we had had clear skies instead of clouds, I am sure we would have had excellent star viewing. The lake was a little too cold for me to swim, but the girls had no problem with the temp. The older girls did, however, find what looked to be tiny leeches in the deeper water. Fishing wise, I was up every morning at sunrise and watched a massive number of fishes break water to eat. The park doesn't have a loaner system so didn't get to do any fishing. Hiking wise, this park has excellent trails and views that aren't incredibly difficult. We hiked up to the bridge and overlook, both good spots to check out. We will definitely have to try the park again when its sunny and clear.

Beautiful State Park
This is a smallish state park, with a fully contained lake. That means you can fish without a license. You can get live bait (Fat Canadian worms) at the feed store in town. Beautiful and restful. Make a reservation if you want to camp. There ae only 8 full hook ups. There are quite a number of beautiful primitive spots, the ones on the west side of the lake are really quiet. Sites 30 and 31 are right on the water with a small dock and right next to the Bosque hiking trail. The ones on the south side of the lake are closer to the entrance but they are right on the road. Yes, there is no cell service. If you must have a meeting there is a small town park about two miles from the entrance from he park, right next to a cell tower. You will get 4 bars 4G on AT&T. Meanwhile, for a small area around the HQ, there is WIFI. We would go again.
