Great Layout. Nice Mix of Art. A Piece of San Antonio History
The McNay Art Museum engages a diverse community in the discovery and enjoyment of the visual arts. Built in the 1920s by artist and educator Marion Koogler McNay, the Spanish Colonial Revival residence became the site of Texas’s first modern art museum when it opened in 1954. Today, 200,000 visitors a year enjoy works by modern masters including Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Edward Hopper, Joan Mitchell, Alice Neel, Georgia O’Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The 25 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds include sculptures by Willie Cole, Robert Indiana, Luis A. Jiménez Jr., Alejandro Martín, George Rickey, Joel Shapiro, Kiki Smith, Tom Wesselmann, and more.

Gem of a Museum
This is a lovely museum with artful grounds showcasing interesting sculpture. Be sure to allow time to wander around outside. We were excited to see the Georgia O'Keefe exhibit. It contained works of hers that were lesser known to us as were several of the other artists whose works were represented. It was quiet and plenty of time to read and study the art work without feeling rushed. Many diverse pieces. An unexpected find was a Monet. it was a great way to slow down for an afternoon.

A great museum to visit
This museum is located in NE San Antonio near an historical area of San Antonio. It offers standard museum activities but, one unique thing about the museum grounds is it offers a large area beautifully well kept landscaped surrounding the museum itself mostly used as a great place for photo shoots such as “Wedding Pictures”, “Family Portraits” or any photos shots that you want an out door scheme. The grounds are very well kept. There is a small fee of approx $20 to use the grounds for photo shoots. I am a semi-pro photographer and can say there area is well designed with a variety of back grounds for your photos for the average camera bug to the pro.
