    Well maintained historic adobe home
We checked in across the street at the office then watched a short film detailing the history of the house. Then we were fortunate enough to have a knowledgeable docent, Gloria, who shared her enthusiasm about the house with us. The home is part of the Texas Historical Society. The home is a well preserved adobe structure built in the 1870’s. The same family had lived there for 4 generations and have contributed to the city in many ways. The furniture is original and gives you an interesting perspective of what life was like.

a must-see glimpse into old El Paso
One of El Paso's very few well-preserved historic houses (sadly), the Magoffin Home opens a portal into a time when the arrival of the railroad catapulted this sleepy border town into a major commercial. Home to one of the city's founding families for six generations, the site preserves much of the original furniture and decor. In true "Barry Lyndon" fashion, it's not hard to imagine one of the original residents intruding on your tour to settle into the inviting living room for a game of cards or dancing the night away in the entry sala. The house itself is a beautiful example of classic Southwestern adobe hacienda architecture, with walls thicker than those of most skyscrapers and rooms that open onto a peaceful patio. The guides, many of whom are board members, are extremely well-informed and wonderfully entertaining.
