Weekend Camping Getaway
We camped at site 66. Nice lake view, plenty of tall trees, so, so quiet. We hiked Penitentiary Hollow with my dachshund and chiweenie. They loved it, but were wore out the rest of the day. There were rock climbers on the day we went. We also walked part of the trail at the Lone Star Amphitheater. That trail is wide and paved. If you get there and no one is at the front gate to check you in, go to your site and check in the next morning at 9:00. It was our first time out there, so I was a little confused with that. But there is a little kiosk there with maps and instructions. I had made our reservations online, in advance. If you don't bring fire wood, they do have a little store in the park, or you can go into Mineral Wells and get it and other supplies a lot cheaper. There is a Walmart and many other stores in Mineral Wells. We saw 5 deer, an otter, and dozens of red birds while we were there. While were were there, we took a trip into Mineral Wells to see how the Baker Hotel was coming along and also drove through Wolters.

CRAZY WATER and Family Fun!!!!
Lake Mineral Wells is a must for anyone who enjoys swimming, rock climbing and hiking. Penitentiary Hollows is amazing, it feels like your not even in Texas. This area of the park is where the rock climbing is done. This park is also a Trailways, which is great for bike riding. We even went into the town of Mineral Wells to try the famed CrAzY Water. This park is underrated in my personal opinion.
