    Sweet Surprise
We were in between activities, and ended up here, at a local park with this small, white-washed chapel. The interior paint was peeling a bit, but flowers covered the altar and small pews clearly conveyed the feeling that La Lomita was special. So glad we stopped!

    Historical Landmark of Mission, TX
La Lomita Chapel does not have too much to offer. Visitors can walk the grounds of the site, however, there is not much else to do around the area. I know this is a historical landmark for the City of Mission. In fact, this location and its history is how the city got its name. The site is open to the public and is free of charge. The chapel is open to the public and anyone can walk in and out freely (before nightfall). The Rio Grande River is extremely close by and the restaurant Pepe's On The River is within 5-10 min of walking distance. I would suggest getting there before dark because I did not notice too many street lights around the area.
