    King Ranch Weekend
We went to the Ranch hand Breakfast and for $6 we got our money’s worth and more. There’s obviously the breakfast, but you also get live music and calf roping all included for the $6 paid for the breakfast. Also, we took a shuttle van tour of the ranch and it was a great experience as well. Janelle was our tour guide/driver and she was very knowledgeable about the Ranch and it’s history dating back to Captain King and his beginnings. All in all, I highly recommend this trip on the weekend before Thanksgiving which is the only time they have the Ranch hand breakfast.

King Ranch visitor center and daily tour
Our first time at King Ranch, we were uncertain what to expect. We ordered our tickets early online for the 1.5-hour tour, it was an easy process, and we added the museum access. We arrived early and perused the gift shop/check-in area, and watched fifteen minutes of the informational video. King Ranch is a huge enterprise. We went outside to start the tour, and we sat down in a comfortable minibus. The driver and tour narrator introduced herself and identified the different cities and countries where the tourists originated. I think there were honeymooners on board, too. The tour provided the background history of Captain King, a steamboat pilot, and how he found the ranch, his future wife, and the running W. The tour guide talked about innovations that benefitted the ranch and how the ranch continues to strike a balance between profit and stewardship of the land. We saw the Santa Gertrudis herds, some Longhorns, and many other beasts and birds during the tour. The tour passes by the famous quarter horses sired at King Ranch, too. The tour stops by the Ranch house, and you learn about some of the buildings in the area and how the family stays there at different times in the year. It is worth your time to learn about an interesting piece of American history, including its past and present influence. I had no idea.
