Such a fun, interesting, quirky place to stop on Rt 66!
The "I am Rt 66 Visitor Center and Gallery" is such a fun, interesting, quirky, artsy place to stop on Rt. 66! And yes, it actually IS on Rt. 66. One reviewer said that it wasn't and he is incorrect. He might have been fussy because you have to go up a few blocks and around the corner to the right to see more shopping. My husband stopped in a few weeks ago, planning to stay for just a few minutes, and ended up staying for a few hours! The owner, Jim Livingston, was there and told some wonderful stories about his adventures on the Mother Road. Penny is a delight and gave us a lovely tour. The building started out as a fried chicken restaurant, and they still have the original mosaic of the mascot in the floor at the entryway. They have kept the original building as intact as possible and it is really interesting! There is information about Rt. 66 but also local photography, local art, handmade jewelry, t-shirts, coffee mugs and more. Jim is an AMAZING photographer, to make sure you check out his work! I couldn't leave without a t-shirt and a calendar of Jim's work. It promises to be a constantly evolving and growing gallery. You know it will be different each time you visit! Take a few minutes or a few hours to stop, listen and soak up the atmosphere of the "I am Rt 66 Visitor Center and Gallery". You will be glad you did.

    Great Photography and Unique Stories
This visitor center is truly unique in that not only does it feature great photos of historic Route 66, but it dives deeper into to stories of the people who live, work, and travel on this iconic highway. The “I Am Route 66” series by photographer Jim Livingston is a collection of portraits and stories of these awesome people. Jim has also a great collection of photos captured along the entire length of Route 66. Another side of the center features artwork and photography from local artists and photographers, and will constantly be changing. The staff here is always willing to give you great, friendly advice about Route 66 as it passes thru the Texas Panhandle! Great addition to those who love photography, artwork, and the history of Route 66.
