Brand New--Trails and Wetland
Who knew there were wetlands in the Permian Basin? There are here. This place just opened, pursuant to a grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife. About 3 miles of trails, boardwalk, several bird-viewing blinds, and a hawk-observation tower. It's really pretty nice. Only two things mar. First, heavy traffic noise from the interstate, which rather spoils the peacefulness, at least on the southernmost portion of the trail. Second, another section of the trail abuts a really, ugly junkyard. But hey, nature situated it where it is, and somewhat was savvy enough to make an isolated spot into an unexpected, even unlikely community asset. NOTE--there are NO PETS, and no BIKES permitted. Walkers only. The trails appear handicap accessible.

Nice Respite
My son lives in Midland and we go here every time we’re in town to visit him. We enjoy this as it is a bit of a respite and we always see wildlife. It is very different season to season. Yes, it does get dry in the summer, but this is the desert. There are some interesting facts about plants and animals along the 1.5 mile path. The path is level and easy to walk on. There are several blinds from which to watch birds. This weekend we saw lots of lizards, dove and rabbits. We saw lots of evidence of coyotes, but Wiley was in hiding. The real downside is the proximity to I20 and the resulting noise from trucks. Not much to be done about that.
