    Close to Houston, pretty nice
The hiking trails are very nice. Shady walks are good for Texas heat. Bring water especially if you are walking your dog!!! If you plan to camp, the tent sites starting at site 62 are much shadier than the electric sites 47-59, but the water spigots are few and far between. Sites 60 thru 121 are basically for tents or boondocking. Also, sites 47 thru 59 are tiny and all on hills - hard to level. Sites 35 - 45 are much shadier and nicer. If you think you need a lake view here, don’t bother! It’s all choked with vegetation and looks like a swamp. The pull through sites with sewer are pretty nice but they are all one right after another, stacked up by the road. For more privacy, choose 7. The Prairie view area has good shade and the lake here has less vegetation but a lot of the sites are on hills. Bring your levelers! Site 142 was our favorite of the whole park, but it’s ADA and should be left for disabled guests. Site 157 is on such a severe slope, don’t know if you could ever level your trailer. There are a lot of shelters and they are small but have room around them. Didn’t really check them out. The picnic areas are awesome!!! Shady and beautiful and a magnet for birds!

Camping was fun but no fish :(
Lots of activities to do with kids, and the trees made summer camping very do-able. We camped at the electric hookup site 51 coz it is summer and hot, so we brought along our fan! I love the shade, surrounded by tree, but 49/51/52/53 aren’t level and less wide and our site was less grassy and hard with either rocks/roots/acorns. The trees around us offer good place to hook our hammock, but turns out one of the tree near water spigot at site 52 is swarmed with wood roaches at night!! I surely hope that was the only tree the roach like, bcoz we didnt see any other roach on other trees. Phew!!! We were visited by squirrels, they bit on our food boxes when we left for hiking and also by a raccoon at night. Hardly any mosquitoes, so yay! Bring ear plugs coz the frogs are super loud. The fishing wasnt as fun coz we didnt manage to get any :( but we get to see alligators though. That was awesome. We made a short hike, drove to a swimming spot (like 3 min drive) and the swimming area has net around it. Not so big, maybe about 50ft-ish but the water is clean! The restroom nearest to us (next to site 47) quite dirty and shower room poorly maintained. The light suddenly when out the first night I bathed! So next day we drove to the restroom/shower next to site 76, and that is absolutely clean and gold standard. It’s so close to Houston so yes we will come back and will change campsite :)
