Hell's Gate Watercraft Rentals, Texas, United States

GREAT TIME! Good experience renting SeaDoos

We used Bluff Creek, or Hell's Gate Water Rental -- they go by both names, I think. Super easy to get a couple of SeaDoos going for around $85 an hour. The kids working there are super quick and easy to get you into the water. FANTASTIC people watching if you are, say, a 40-something chubby suburban mom who enjoys looking at the boat-set while the kiddos tear it up. :) So, I recommend this place pretty heartily! Do take a couple of slices of bread or crackers or buy a dollar's worth of fish food to feed those hungry cats in the dock. Good way to spend the time while you wait.

A good option for renting a boat
Possum Kingdom Lake is a great lake to go boating on. It's long and winding, with great cliffs and large homes on all sides. Can be a good option for skiing, fishing, or just boating around. Hell's Gate Watercraft Rentals is a good option for renting a boat if you don't have one. They offer a small variety - two pleasure/ski boats and several pontoon boats. We rented the Chapparal because it's a brand we were familiar with. It's old (12 years) and needed some work, but ran just fine and fit us well. They rent by the hour, and prices are good compared to other options. They have a 2 hour minimum. From the boat launch, it's a quick hop around a bend to "Hell's Gate", the inlet between two cliffs that is one of the deepest parts of the whole lake (100 feet). It's also not far to the dam, which is interesting to go see but of course you can't get close. A two hour rental is plenty of time to see both of these and tool around the lake a bit. The staff here is very nice, but you need to know before you plan your rental that they have a policy that all boats have to be back by 5pm. There is plenty of paperwork to fill out before you leave, so allow plenty of time if you are there in the afternoon. Their hours are different before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. Also make sure that you plan ahead for $20-$30 (maybe your average 2-hour rental) worth of gas when you get back.

    Worst option for boat rental
WARNING!!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! The owner is HORRIBLE nothing but a fraudulent lying thief. All he wants is your money and you will end up paying way more than you anticipate because they will rip you off!!!! He does not care one single bit about the safety of his customers. SAVE YOURSELF A WORST EXPERIENCE AND JUST GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!
