    So Beautiful!
I've been to a lot of zoos around the US and I have to say this is one of the nicest. It's a very beautiful walk through the zoo with lots to see. The animals are in habitats that resemble how they would live in the wild especially the giraffes! The set up for how to feed the giraffes was brilliant and other zoos need to take note. You just buy some lettuce and they walk right up to the overlook and you feed them. It's not an extra fee like at other zoos....just the cost of the lettuce. All of the exhibits are beautiful and the animals appear to be very well taken care of. In fact, this was the first time I got to hear a lion roar in real life. It was such a great experience! The Texas town is really cool! There is a train, carousel, shops, and restaurants! The only disappointment here was some of the shops weren't open and the interactive room which features Texas weather was having technical difficulties and we couldn't hear anything. My only complaint was how crowded it was! They are not selling tickets at the gate so you have to order them online and pick a time slot in which you will arrive. You would think it wouldn't be crowded because of this but you would be so wrong. There were hundreds of people standing in line at the gate to get it....all for the 10am time slot! No social distancing but everyone was required to wear a mask. So if you are trying to find an activity to safely social distance with your family this is not it. I will definitely go back after covid.

    The Best Zoo!
My husband, myself, and our 6 year old son arrived at the zoo at 10pm on a Tuesday. You have to purchase your tickets online as no tickets are sold at the zoo anymore. We had previously purchased our tickets online, so no worries. However, you do have to pay $5 for parking at the zoo when you arrive. For a Tuesday right at opening when school is in session, it sure was busy! There were people lining up before 10am, and the line was fairly long. Luckily, the line moved quickly. We paid to take the little train to the other end of the zoo where all the kid stuff was. It's a short train ride, but I like it, and my son loves riding the train. The little petting zoo area was nice, but it is very small. We went into this building in the kid area that had a movie about Texas weather going on. My son saw it last time we were there but that was about 2 or 3 years ago. He still enjoyed watching the short film although this time they didn't have the balls fall down from the ceiling like the previous time. Some of the exhibits were being worked on, so there were no lions, hyenas, or tigers. There were elephants this time though! My favorite area was the primate area. There are so many animals to see! We ended up spending just over 4 hours at the zoo looking at everything! We ate at the area next to the general store. They have a grill there where you can get hot dogs and burgers as well as a Pizza Hut that does personal pan pizzas and breadsticks. The barbecue place was closed though. My son got a hamburger, and my husband and myself got a pizza and breadsticks. The food wasn't too overpriced which was great, and the dining area was very clean. Oh, the line also moved quickly while waiting to order food. We did visit two souvenir shops. I think the prices aren't too bad, and the staff was friendly. My husband was dying to feed the giraffes so we bought some lettuce leaves (which are overpriced at $6 for two large lettuce leaves), and my son and my husband got to feed a couple of the giraffes. They did have security there getting on to people who tried touching the giraffes, so I guess that's a common problem. Overall, this is a huge zoo that's lots of fun even if you don't have kids! It's not even that expensive for a ticket! I'd definitely recommend this place.
