A Bit of Local History

While the Ft. Stockton Visitor Center has the usual brochures for local attractions, it is more of a museum of the past. Outside of the Center are several well done interpretive exhibits, including the earliest history of the Comanche Trail, the Train Era, and the Oil Boom. There is even a very modern exhibit of solar and wind power, and includes a water conservation setup. Each of these exhibits does not give a history book review, but provide only the most interesting and unusual details. This stop is well worth your time.

    Closed but good picture spot!
The visitor center is closed on Sunday unfortunately but we were able to walk around outside and take some pretty cool pictures. There are metal cutouts with different scenes of cowboys and if you cross the railroad tracks there are more of these but with wagons and families. There is a small train that you can take pictures with but we couldn't go inside. Not sure if it's open during regular business hours. Of all the visitor centers I've been to this is one of the nicest as far as unique photo opportunities go....

    Historic building
The visitor center is in a historic building, on beautiful grounds. This is were we parked to walk over to the road runner. They also have cutouts of coy boys and settlers on the grounds. Nice place to stretch your legs, and read about the history and get great photos of Fort Stockton. There was one lady working the visitor center who was very nice.
