Fort Leaton, Texas, United States
4.0 (51 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Presidio Historic Sites
A little Histoy never hurt anyone!
Fort Leaton was established in 1848 and is named after former Indian bounty hunter Benjamin Leaton. It is one of the largest and best preserved adobe structures in Texas and definitely worth a visit. Well, if you like History! Guided Tours on the weekend, and self guided walking tours otherwise. Nice little gift shop. Expect to spend about one hour. There is a fee.

Cool history of the area and families.
This was right on our way to Big Bend so we pulled in. Hauling a 22' travel trailer but there was room to park in the lot and get in and out easily. It was $5 for adults, Children 12 and under are free. Very well kept and right up our alley for learning about the settling of this area. Nature walk around the area outside too. We were there about an hour.

Interesting
We visited this site recently not knowing what to expect. Upon checking in the woman at the register offered little information about the facility unless you asked her. Once we got past that, things began to improve. Three Presidio high school seniors were providing tours of the facility. Their information was presented in detail and each did a very good job. Interesting to see life in early Texas on the border. The restored buildings are nice. Definitely will recommend a visit, especially if the high school crew is there.
