A Great Way to Spend a Couple of Hours on a Hot Afternoon!
The museum is a charming small historical building across from the Ellis County Courthouse. Right in the town square with restaurants & shopping close-by with easy parking. You can walk the whole surrounding area comfortably unless the day is too hot. The pictures, artifacts, & written material, including books, give you an interesting glance back to an earlier time of Ellis County, & in general, Texas history. Good insights into the individual pioneers who settled the town & made it a hub for the cotton & agriculture industries before computers managed commodity commerce. It is amazing to see the stern faces, hot clothing, & real "horse-power" transportation that characterized the persona & lifestyles of this bygone era. It may be a blindspot in my personality, but I will never stop being amazed by the images of people who once wore heavy buttoned-up woolen suits & dresses & ate picnics in the sun of the Texas heat! The early pioneers were truly a different breed of our species. I am a history buff, & so very much enjoyed my walk through this site. World War 2 memorabilia worth a close look, especially as a reminder of the current risks of our current world condition. Staff friendly, & willing to give feedback to questions that enhance museum exhibits. Urge anyone to spend some time looking through the museum if you are in town & have some extra time to fill your schedule. Look across the street from the corner opposite the Rogers Hotel, & the vacant corner building is probably one of the last pharmacy-soda shops that still served old-fashioned malts on a sit-down counter. Makes you wonder about the transience of time & space!

    Waxahachie museum.
Stopped in for a very friendly and informative visit to the museum in the old Masonic building. Lots of artifacts and interesting articles, all they ask is for a voluntary donation. Don't hesitate to stop in.
