Delightful Art Museum
Founded in 1959, the El Paso Museum of Art was born from a need to house a significant donation of European Baroque and Renaissance works to the City of El Paso by the Samuel Kress Foundation. This collection encompasses major works by Botticelli, Canaletto, van Dyck, Zurbarán, and Artemisia Gentileschi, among other Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance masters. Over time, this seed collection grew to include over 7000 works. In 1998, EPMA moved to its current location at the heart of El Paso’s Downtown Arts District, less than a mile from the bridge to Juárez. Today, EPMA continues to collect, preserve, interpret, and exhibit works of art that support and illuminate the Museum’s permanent collection of American, European, and Mexican art.

A good place to spend a pensive hour
An interesting blend of old and new art. They are setting up for a temporary exhibit of art inspired by Dante’s Inferno. The permanent collection is not large but spans hundreds of years. It is a clean and quiet place with plenty of seating to rest and enjoy the art.

Do visit as the collection is good
Very nice and free museum. Depending on what you like to see, you can spend from 1/2 hour and up. There is a lot of religious art. I especially liked the European art, especially the Canaletto painting, which is a special interest. There is no gift shop of cofe services, but don't let that stop you from this very nice museum with a helpful staff.
