Double Lake - Double A++

My wife and I have been camping here a few times. We have stayed on both the tent side with no electric and RV side with electric. We are tent campers, and, in the summer, the electric side is better as we can use electric fans. No matter, though, you will be able to find a beautifully, wooded campsite. We were introduced to Double Lake by friends, and, living 45 minutes away, we love this campground. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The sites are very well kept. There are both rustic sites with potable water and electric sites. The swimming area is exceptionally clean. Sites can be reserved in advanced or you can try a walk on site. This is our favorite weekend camping spot near Houston. What to do while there? Relax, swim, fish, kayak, mountain bike, walk the trails, and, oh yeah, relax.

    What a bargain!
    This campground is beautiful. The campsites are large and generally private. It is very quiet at night, and dark for good stargazing. The campground is also well maintained by the onsite staff. The town of Coldspring is conveniently nearby. And all this for a very low per night rate and no cost to access the park. I will be back.

    Excellent getaway...quiet and peaceful
    We visited this campground for the first time the first week in February. The weather was nice and we enjoyed the peaceful and quiet setting. We have a 38’ travel trailer and stayed in site 63, waterfront site. The waterfront sites have water and 50 amp electric hookups. There are several other sites on the same loop, but not on the lake, that have full hookups. We arrived on a Wednesday and stayed through the following Monday. Many sites are available to reserve on Recreation.gov, but they also have at lease a half a dozen sites, including 3-4 waterfront, that are first-come, first serve, non-reserveable. The lake is small, but nice, with a beautiful walking trail, about a mile around it. The park has several hiking and biking trails, all relatively easy to walk and explore. Fishing in the lake was fun, plenty of bites, mostly small fish. Being relatively close to Houston (about an hour away), the park fills up on the weekends, but didn’t feel too crowded. Definitely will go back.
