    Lovely natural remote park
I’m not very familiar with Texas but decided to venture out alone while my husband is here for work. I hiked a couple of hours in this park today and found it very remote and peaceful. The Colorado river was slow and brown, not very pretty but I discovered the lovely springs and swimming holes on the Spicewood Springs trail. Easy flat hike alongside the river. Only downside was my time at the beautiful swimming hole was ruined by a family with a very loud aggressive dog off leash. It continued to growl and bark and jump at me so I was forced to leave before the situation deteriorated and someone was injured. If your dog is aggressive and hates people DONT take it to a public place ! What is wrong with people? So selfish and rude and dangerous.

    True Texas Nature
Excellent park for hiking, fishing, and enjoying nature. The park is about 30 miles from the nearest gas station (coming from Lampasas), so make sure you aren't low on fuel before heading out there. The road is mostly paved, but does have some water crossings and cattle grates, so it might be considered bumpy. It was roughest near the river/camping areas which is all gravel in those areas. Sadly it rained the day we visited, so we didn't get to do all the hiking and trails we had hoped to. Some storms had passed through before we came, so several trees and limbs were fallen and broken on the few trails we were able to enjoy. We were able to do part of the Spicewood Springs trail. The falls look like a great place to enjoy the water in the warmer months. I definitely want to come back and try the trails again, especially Gorman Falls. We saw numerous deer, saw and heard tons of birds, and even saw a baby goat or lamb, which we assumed was wild.
