The "Arlington of the South" -- a very moving visit

The Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen opened Jan. 4, 2006. It is 174 acres with 50,000 burial plots. The land for the cemetery was previously part of Fort Hood that was donated to the federal government. Veterans and spouses from around the US are buried in this moving place, some up to 10 a day. Any member of the United States Armed Forces who dies while on active duty or any Veteran who was discharged under conditions other than dishonorable may be eligible for burial in a national cemetery at no cost

    Treat all of the deceased familly with the greatest respect
    Well maintained and cared for with love. Appreciate the respect given to the deceased in maintaining a respectfully and beautiful area. Love the new fencing

    It can be better.
    A Big empty field with graves too close to each other. It felt as their been stacked to feet as many as possible in a long ran. It lacked character. I felt sad, because those souls deserved a better resting place. It can be better.
