Breathtaking views- beats going to the movies or binge-watching shows!
For just $5 each you can enjoy the beauty of nature with amazingly breathtaking views, wandering bison, and playful prairie dogs. The bonus was visiting in February with the park almost to ourselves and wonderful 75 degree weather. When we entered the park, there were a few Bison drinking and bathing at the lake. We stopped at the visitor center, picked up a map and trail recommendations (South Prong and Eagle Point), and headed out by car to explore. A small herd of bison walked next to us as we drove away. We checked out the Honey Flat Camping area sites for future visits and were amazed to see more bison nibbling on the brush throughout the campsite. We proceeded to drive fully through the park taking in all the beautiful views along the way, spotting more bison throughout our drive. The bison were everywhere on the day we visited (also watch out for bison patties everywhere you walk!). We parked at the South Prong parking area and hiked part of the Upper South Prong trail to take in all of the amazing rock formations- easy walk to get close up views. We then went to the North Prong parking area but only walked at the flat area before the trail starts, but still so beautiful! We were tired and hungry at this point so we couldn't do the Eagle Point trail to see the Natural Bridge so we decided to save that for next visit because we definitely want to come back and camp here as well. The bonus driving out was the prairie dogs playing and peeking out of their holes- looked like they were having fun! I highly recommend visiting here and can't wait to return.

    Red Rocks & Bison suprises
In late Oct this is breathtakingly beautiful with inviting campsites and not crowded. We expected to see some of the bison roaming from Texas's largest herd, but we encountered 5 huge bulls at different times, very slowly traversing the roadways. All seem used to being ogled, but you are cautioned at the Visitor's Center to keep a healthy distance. Every turn of the beautiful drive through the Canyon was gorgeous. Many hiking trails, from easy to strenuous are mapped on an available trail guide. Caprock, even when windy, is so quiet, and even Spiritual as a friend describes it. This state park is a gem, one I hope to return to.
