Visitors Center NOT the Capitol Building
The Trip Advisor listing seems to combine the Capitol Building with the Visitors centre. NOTE: The visitors centre is a separate building within the grounds of the Capitol gardens. This is a learning resource centre for tourists and school groups to learn more about the history of Texas. Actually I learned more about the history of Texas, the building of the Capitol building and the development of the Texas State history here than in the main building. Very interesting and well presented in a relevant and easy to understand way. Need to allow maybe 1.5 hours for this, good background information

    Visitors' Center and Museum
While called a visitors' center, this building is of interest for multiple reasons. In addition to the visitors' center function, it is a historic building, serving as the land surveying offices over a century ago. One of the employees was author O. Henry, and there is an exhibit about his life and the building's role in one of his stories. There is also a small museum with exhibits on the experience of the early Texas settlers, a hands-on exhibit explaining the surveying function of the office, and a video on the history of the nearby Capitol building.
