Capital of Texas Zoo, Texas, United States

3.5 (62 reviews) Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent Ranking #6 in Cedar Creek Zoos

The Capital of Texas Zoo has a great variety of animals.

The zoo is small and off the beaten path near Austin. We were visiting the Circuit of the Americas and had an extra day. While it is small, the animals seem well cared for and also were much more active than most of the larger zoos. I read where to owners have special love to care for the animals. I like the prairie dog area where they seem to be gaining a foothold.

    poorly managed
If you go, bring the street address -- you'll need it. The only sign at the actual entrance is hand-written on a small piece of cardboard. I passed it three times and had to ask several neighbors where the zoo was. You can't see it from the road. $4 for a solo cup full of food for the "petting zoo", which is actually just feeding goats through a fence. There is no real petting at the petting zoo, which is disappointing since there are rabbits and guinea pigs nearby. Some of the animals can be found in your nearest pet store, while others are extremely rare. It is nice that you can get fairly close to a lot of the animals. However, the gate to one exhibit had been left open. Thinking that meant we could get a little closer. We went in, and I ended up being shocked by the animal's electric fence. Nice..... There is no map or directions about where to find the exhibits, and all trails dead end. Overall, some really cool animals, but the zoo needs much better management.

I liked this little zoo and so did my family
I finally went to the zoo and was pleasantly surprised. It had all kinds of animals and we had a coupon so it was practically free to get in. It is very difficult to find out in the country and the signage is not easy to understand but once you get in the zoo it is wirth your time and the little bit if money we paid.
