Best watering hole in TX

In 2005, the City of Wimberley embarked on a mission to save the Blue Hole from the threat of residential development. After an unprecedented fundraising effort, the land was purchased by the City for use as a community park. The City of Wimberley has since developed the 126-acre park for the enjoyment of residents, visitors, and future generations. It includes much needed recreational facilities for our growing community and showcases a true gem in the Texas Hill Country. The park includes approximately 4.5 miles of trails, picnic areas, a community pavilion, playscape, basketball court, sand volleyball court, amphitheater, and the Blue Hole Swimming Area. The entire park is open to visitors within the regular operating hours, however, swimming is only allowed during the designated swimming season. The park balances the needs of the community while preserving and restoring the historic Blue Hole and surrounding ecosystems.

    Best watering hole in TX
If I could give more stars I would. We booked from 9am -1pm w family ranging from 5-55. It was the perfect amount of time for our group. I could have stayed all day. Plenty of shade from the cypress trees. Bring a wagon if you’re taking in a cooler, it’s a quick walk down from the checkin counter but parking might be farther depending on what time you get there. We’ll be back ASAP

    First Time and Enjoyed
Before visiting Wimberley I check to see what parks they had in the vicinity and found this one. So that was our first stop late morning before it got to hot. It is a short distance from the main square to the turn off and a sign indicates the turn. Then a short drive to the parking lot which is not very large but there were a few spaces left. From there you can get on the main trail and we stopped in at the first building and noticed it had a sign for tickets. Curious we stopped to find out and were asked if we had reservations. We told the attendant that we were just going to walk the nature trails and she indicated a path to the overlook to see the swimming hole. We found the overlook easily and it was a nice view of the creek swimming area which also had a nice large green lawn area that people had picnic blankets laid out in different areas. This was allowing some social distancing for this type of activity. There were also stone picnic tables so assumed you have to make reservations to go to that area but not sure about cost or time limit and such. I checked online but didn't find it on the website. It is a nice area though to relax and enjoy the river. We continued on our way down the nature trails which are marked well with signage and go in many directions. We wound around to a small playground area which had restrooms and more picnic tables but this was all closed due to the COVID at present. Further around was a soccer field and more picnic tables and more trails. The trails are wide and mulched so easy walking with an ample amount of shade. We will definitely go back here when visiting this area as it is a good way to get some quiet exercise.
