Largest sanctuary in the country
Absolute must see! However, out of respect for the animals, it is only open to the public twice a year (April and October). Plan ahead if you want to visit. Definitely worth it!

If you love animals but don't believe in zoos, visit Black Beauty Ranch
I visited Black Beauty ranch as part of a group of volunteers who wanted to help the ranch in any way we could. One group picked up trash up and down the country road leading to the ranch, another did some fence painting, and another moved some furniture. As a thank you for our work, we got a tour. This was back when Black Beauty was still a part of Cleveland Amory's original Fund for Animals and tours weren't held often because it was his belief that animals do not exist for our viewing pleasure, but for their own unique needs and wants. It was beautiful to see so many animals running free in the huge pastures. I believe Black Beauty is now run by the HSUS, and I think they have somewhat more visitors than it did under Fund for Animals. You should call ahead to schedule a visit, or better yet, offer to volunteer!
