TEXAS OUTLAW HISTORY

While in Giddings, this is a nice history stop if you dig graveyards--no pun intended! Longley was a real Texas outlaw and gunslinger, with many notches on his belt. He supposedly recanted his life of crime and killings just before the noose tightened around his neck.

    Famous Texas Outlaw
This is the final resting place of legendary Texas outlaw and gunfighter, William "Bill" Longley [1851-1878]. Located in the Giddings City Cemetery, west of town, the grave is well marked and includes a Texas Historical Marker. A knee-high petrified-wood marker once stood over the grave, but has been eroded by time and visitors over the years. A interesting stop for Texas and Old West history fans.
