Great Softball Program

Have played softball here for several years. It is slightly more expensive to play here than a general city league. But the facilities are always clean and the fields are in great condition. Games are rarely rained out due to the turf infield and the outfield drains quicky. Beer prices are reasonable.

    Youth baseball tournament
Beautiful facility with lots of parking space. The fields are well kept and the facility over all is well maintained. The bathrooms desire attention for the number of people that are there for tournament play. The food & drinks are extremely over priced! The concessions need adult management and more registers need to be open during tournaments. There are teenagers running the concessions with no personality and could care less if they take or get your order filled. I would return here but I would bring my own food and drinks and go to my vehicle to eat. The food was just ok and I would never pay $14.00 again for small hamburger, small portion of fries, and drink with no free refills.

    Youth Baseball Tournament
Big League Dreams is a privately owned baseball/softball/indoor soccer facility. Perhaps this is a franchise because their website lists many parks in California, two in TX, one in NV and AZ. Traditionally, baseball parks are owned and managed by towns and cities as part of their Parks & Rec Depts. My review is for the ballpark in Mansfield, TX. My son's team has played at two separate tournaments at BLD, today was the most recent. The downside...gate fees. In regards to baseball, each day spectators pay $5 entrance fee and receive $1 off token at the snack bar. 12 and under are free with the exception of players who pay $1/get $1 token. We had already paid $40 player entry fee for the tournament. ****I would like to note that only one VERY LONG line forms and one person worked the ticket office for the gate entry...obviously understaffed during the morning when teams are arriving. No outside coolers/food allowed, players' gear bags are checked for outside drinks coming into the park. Parking is free and the lot is shared with the Hawaiian Falls waterpark when in season. The indoor air conditioned/heated snack bar area services 5 baseball fields. There is an abundance of chairs and tables inside to watch the games on the field or catch a professional sporting event on the various TV screens, this is a bonus over any fields at any city, hands down. However, ONCE AGAIN...LONG LINES...and understaffing in the snack bar. Each field was being used with 2 teams playing at each field...you have 10 teams plus their family members in attendance, no outside food or drink allowed...which generates a large amount of customers at the snack bar with teenagers running the cash registers and cooking the food. Downside, the food and drink are pricey, but the tokens offset $1 per items depending on how many tokens you accumulate at the gate. The food is also your typical ballpark snack food fare "its okay"...and if you are gluten free, forget it! My son said the breakfast burrito was good that he had between games. In two days, I did not see an adult over age 20 working or managing the snack bar or the surrounding area. I did not see anyone maintaining/overseeing the dining area, condiment/napkin station, and bathrooms. With the large number of people moving through all day for tournament games, it creates a need for periodic clean up and maintenance. I did not see anything of the sort being done. Simply put, it was understaffed and under managed. On the positive side, the fields are maintained nicely (turf infield, natural grass outfield), safety nets to protect spectators from foul balls, wonderful, comfortable outdoor seating and plenty of nice picnic tables in shaded areas. There are many positives to our experience, but room for improvement on those important areas that keep players and families returning. By the way...if you are interested our tournament was to benefit the Kyle Lewis Amoeba Awareness Foundation. If you have children and you go swimming in fresh bodies of water (lakes, rivers, ponds) anywhere in the United States...you MUST go to their website and educate yourself. I met Kyle's family at the tournament, they are honoring the memory of their son by taking the time to educate others about the dangers of freshwater swimming. Please take a moment to check their website, it could save a child's life.
