Good spot to see Whooping Cranes
A great wildlife refuge dedicated to maintaining whooping cranes in the wild. This is a large refuge with a number of good birding hiking trails, a kayak launch and some ADA accessible viewing platforms. While cranes can often be spotted from a long distance from the viewing platforms (bring binoculars), closer views can be obtained if you are lucky from some of the hiking trails when birds are in closer. Snakes and alligators can also be seen so some reasonable care needs to be taken during hikes. The refuge is well maintained with a new visitor center close to being finished. Early mornings and late evenings are the most productive times to visit to see birds.

    Wonderful Facility for the Birds
The people staff at the reserve are top notch. They set up a viewing scope for a while when we were there. The very small gift shop is great. Items were priced fairly and had better selection than some stores in Fulton-Rockport. The Whooping Cranes were active the day we were there but just a little further away than I had been led to believe through these kind of posts. It was good to get information that a census in 2018 says Aransas had 505 birds. We went on to Fulton for a boat tour and it was THE BEST.
