Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Texas, United States

Cool movie venue

They tore down the old Western Auto building in Richardson Heights Shopping Center and gentrified it with this lovely new Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. If you're going to a movie around here, you should probably come to this place. You're going to like it! (Movies are generally too loud and visually difficult for me as an old broken-down codger-ette, so I choose my films carefully.) Try one of the neat Indian restaurants that have taken over the area. I still miss Sun Rexall (which was a 1940s icon on the corner that anchored the shopping center through the mid-1980s.) I wish I had seen James Stewart's "Harvey" here this past weekend like TinLizzie Traveler! That is one of the most wonderful films ever. "P-O-O-K-A: a mischievous Celtic/Irish spirit that often appears in the form of a large animal and how are you, Mr. Wilson?"

    I love this place
I only see movies at Alamo Drafthouse now. The food is always delicious, service is great, and the theatre is always quiet as it should be! I always enjoy the preview shows before the movie too.

Very unique experience for avid moviegoers such as my husband and myself.
We arrived in Texas to attend the Texas Frightmare Weekend that is held yearly at the Hyatt Regency near the DFW airport. A few days before leaving to attend this, my husband got word that there was to be a special screening of Dawn of the Dead with writer/director George Romero and actors Tom Savini, David Emge and Scott Reiniger in attendance. The address was difficult to find on our gps and until we stopped and asked for directions at a gas station we found out we needed to find belt line road off of the highway which took us right to the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema sign. Parking outside was plentiful We were happy we didn't miss the movie and even though we were a few minutes late we still got a good seat and listened to much of the Q and A with the cast before the movie started. Each table has its own menu and card to fill out to give the staff that very continuously walks through to take your order. They have many different things to eat and drink, Moderately priced but from what I saw people around me order everything looked well made and smelled good. My husband and I opted for the bottomless popcorn which arrived in a big metal bowl , real butter was a small fee extra but it was worth it because it was really good! During the movie the staff would walk up and down the rows making sure people didn't need anything. We had our beers and popcorn and were happy :) I know there is a strict rule that if anyone distracts the movie going experience, that person will be eventually asked to leave. During our movie we didn't have anybody wild or obnoxious but it was good to know that we were all there for a general purpose, to watch movies amongst others that love them just as much as you do. Next year when we get back to Texas we are definitely going to try to get out there again to see another movie. There should be more places like this. I know i'd definately make it a regular routine to go enjoy a movie and dinner with drinks. Thank you guys! Hope to see you all again soon!
