Beautiful Architectural Building

The Temperance Building is a beautiful architectural building that represents the history of Harriman. Unfortunately the building itself is no longer open to the public due to needed renovations, but it is still worth a visit when you are in the area. There is plenty of other things to do on your visit. The Temperance Building was originally built by the East Tennessee Land Company in the early 1890s to serve as their offices as they developed Harriman as a planned Temperance community. Later it served as the home of American University, and has also held several other uses throughout its history.
