    Christmas gathering
We stayed at Standing Stone State Park in December for a family Christmas. It was wonderful! We stayed in a deluxe cabin that even had a large tv, not that we watched tv much with the cosy surroundings for family games. The cabins are well stocked with everything you need. They are furnished well, and for once I could even sleep when not at home. The beds were very comfortable for me. The staff at the park was so accommodating and helpful. I highly recommend this state park.

Fall Break hike with our daughter
We were happy to see fall color hanging on for us to enjoy. Took a hike down to the dam from the ranger station. Steep series of switch backs with a nice view at the bottom. We continued our trek back following the bank of the water which brought beautiful slate & other rock formations. Took over an hour. We had the added surprise of seeing a heron eating a fish he had just pulled out of the lake, and a playful otter swimming freely. The ranger was polite and gave us a trail map, but we found trail markers were almost nonexistent. I suggest you wear sturdy shoes, bring bottled water, and allow plenty of time to “explore”.
