Southern Brookies Fly Fishing, Tennessee, United States

5.0 (5 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Lancaster Fishing Charters & Tours

Fun and informative

Southern Brookies is a beautiful place right on the Caney Fork river. I took intro to fly fishing with my brother and two of his boys. Susan is a great teacher. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about fly fishing. I left class today feeling much more confident in the basics of fly fishing. The on site casting pond was a great place to test our new skills and we were all able to catch fish. I can't wait to go back and stay a whole weekend, attend a fly tying class or a float trip.

    Great location, expert teacher
My brother, my 2 nephews and I took intro to fly fishing in October. It was an excellent class. Beautiful spot right on the caney fork and a pond to practice your new skills. Susan is an expert and a kind patient teacher. The kids ages 10 and 12 loved the class too. I highly recommend her fly fishing classes and I can't wait to stay in one of her beautiful campers some weekend. I left class with a much better casting form. It's well worth the money and a great experience. Drew Tincher

Fly fishing camp on the Caney River near Nashville
We spent this weekend at Southern Brookies fly fishing retreat located on the beautiful Caney River near Nashville, Tennessee this weekend. It's the perfect spot to enjoy the great outdoors and a beautiful river a short drive from the city. The retreat has river access where you can wade fish in front of the property or sit along the bank watching kayakers pass. Owner Susan Thrasher provided us with all of the wading equipment so we could practice the evening before our guided trip. As I was a beginner, she even watched my casts and gave me some things to work on so I might have more success the next day. We cooked out, make a campfire, watched the stars pop out, listened to the night sounds of the forest before bedding down in a super cute vintage camper. The next day we started with a quick breakfast and marveled at the fog on the river which had started the night before. Susan launched the boat and we were off. Before too long we were catching brown and rainbow trout. We paddled and drifted along the beautiful river, catching and releasing and missing several trout. All the way, Susan - with the patience of a saint - provided feedback and tips on our casting. She's the perfect person for this work because she continued to give us gentle and consistent feedback all day without getting frustrated. She even shared several stories to make us feel more positive about our progress. I'm amazed at the fantastic, expertly prepared retreat that Susan has created in a few short years. I can't wait to go back and see what's she's up to. If you are in Nashville and are thinking about fly fishing.....go out to Southern Brookies for a trip you'll always remember!
