Alvin C York State Park and more
Great opportunity to see the Alvin York State Park yesterday. The tours must be purchased beforehand at the old mercantile (across the street). The tours are scheduled on the hour. There were some young ladies out near the canning shed (Friday’s only) giving information about canning (then -1920’s) and up to the early 21st century. The park had wonderful rest rooms. There was an area to take photos of the structures and informational photos were hung everywhere. Inside the mercantile you can purchase a cold drink and enjoy the history of Alvin York and his family, along with military memorabilia. Make sure to visit the grist mill just over the bridge on the left hand side. You can walk through the mill, picnic in a lovely park and enjoy a swim (at your own risk) near the waterfall.

Fun birthday trip
We expected a log cabin in a meadow with a historical marker. What we got was: 15 minute film detailing his life Wonderfully informative museum with cool artifacts. Tour of the 2-story home with a very knowledgeable guide who gave us plenty of time to wonder, answering all questions with easy and good humor. Replica of the battleground trenches of WW1. Neat outbuildings with free range to explore Cheap ($5/person) cost for house tour. Great food at the local General Store.
