Great tour for the whole family!

Raccoon Mountain Caverns is located just 1.3 miles off of I-24 at the Lookout Valley exit (#174), and is less than ten minutes from downtown Chattanooga. Visitors are presented with a cave in its natural state and our 45-minute ( /-) Crystal Palace Walking Tour allows them to view thousands of diverse formations - stalagtites, stalagmites, delicate soda straws, flowstone, rimstone pools, draperies, columns, natural bridges, and a rare shield formation. We also offer a variety of wild cave "spelunking" expeditions for those who want to view beyond the lighted pathways and explore deeper into the mountain. Our Waterfall Dome expedition permits visitors to view the areas tallest underground, natural (unassisted) flowing waterfall.

All safety protocols observed and enforced at this great attraction Summer 2020
Our family really enjoyed this experience but it was a bit confusing at first. You need to CALL ahead of time and reserve a time and pay over the phone before visiting this attraction. When you drive up look for the white TENT. Park close to it and check in there. Make sure to get your mask out of the car when going up. You'll wait there and your tour guide will come and get you to bring you to the recently vacant gift shop to enter the cavern. Masks must be worn the entire time; no expections. She was a great tour guide and very knowledgable about both the history of the attraction as well as animals which can be seen inside. Especially for the kids she pointed her flashlight to several rare salamanders and one bat you could see inside. We were happy to hear that there were more areas of the cave that are extended tours that can be taken later in the year too. She thoughtfully pointed our attention to several low rock sections so no one would get clocked by the tough rock ahead the guests. The tour was about 40 minutes and lots of fun for our son and us alike. So glad we booked this experience when visiting the Chattanooga area. There ARE cabins you can stay in too but they were a bit too pricey so we chose a budget hotel outside the area instead.

Great tour for the whole family!
We came to Chattanooga without a real plan...just for last minute weekend away before going back to school and work. Unfortunately, when we got ready to go to Rock City and Ruby Falls, we realized they were sold out of tickets due to COVID-19 limiting ticket availability. We looked online for other options and these caverns popped up. We weren’t quite sure what to expect but it was a WONDERFUL experience. Our tour guide, Landon, was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. He made the tour fun for all of us. Personally, I would have preferred no Christmas decorations but my 7 year old LOVED them and said it was the best part, lol. My 11 and 15 year old daughters are interested in coming back when they resume the wild cave tours. I’m actually glad Ruby Falls was sold out because we probably wouldn’t have taken the chance on Raccoon Mountain Caverns otherwise. I highly recommend this tour.
