Great day out

Great golf course, this course has a nice mix of long par 5’s and playable par 3’s. We play as a foursome I think just about everyone played some of their best golf. The staff in the club house and the lady in the grill super friendly. Course has a really good price compared to others around the area. A short drive if you are staying around the Smoky Mtns. They also have a driving range.

    Great golf near Pigeon Forge
Just got back from Pigeon Forge where I (and my teenage boys) played four different golf courses. The best course by far was Patriot Hills. It's about 30-minutes away, but well worth the drive! The lay-out is great: A nice blend of holes which present different situations. Most of the fairways are tree-lined so you DON'T get the feeling you're playing in a big field. And though there are houses around, they are all set well back from the course. The roughs were cut (1st and 2nd) appropriately and were in great shape. The greens are very nice and present good challenges (without being crazy or goofy) and are diverse in size and contour. The tee-boxes are especially wonderful! They are, for the most part, level and in almost puttable (metaphorically speaking) condition. For the price of 33-bucks this is an excellent golfing bargain. I've played a bunch of golf in Virginia, Myrtle Beach, and Vegas. Here at home this place would set you back about $60, in Myrtle even more, and in Vegas...forget about it! So, if you've got the kids with you (like I did), and you're trying to keep it under $150...go to Patriot Hills...you will not be disappointed!

    Great Gatlinburg Option for Golf
We stayed at a timeshare near Gatlinburg that had a course on-site but we chose to make the drive to P. Hills because of it was a good deal and sounded like a better course - and it was both. PH has a nice warm-up range with decent prices for balls, and the pro-shop staff was friendly and accomodating. The course itself was a lot of fun to play. While it is in a housing development, there were no holes in which hitting a house was likely - except perhaps on one long par-3 on the back. On many of the holes, one had to drive UP to the next tee from the previous green so that there were far more interesting - and scenic - downhill tee shots than blind uphill shots. In fact, we were very surprised at how few blind shots there were on this hilly course which is always appreciated when you are playing an unfamiliar course. However, there were no holes I considered unfair, silly or gimicky - it was fun test of golf. My wife is relatively new at golf and plays to a 40+ handicap and she also enjoyed the course very much as the forward tees were well placed and hole length reasonable. The course was in good shape and showed the presence of decent course landscape management. (The only negative comment we had was the large number of improperly fixed and unfixed ball marks on the greens the day we played - sadly, more a commentary on the golfers than the maintenance staff.) We would play there again on a trip to the area and next time would hopefully have time for a round at PH's sister course at Dandridge.
