Tram is like riding in a cattle car...too many people stuffed into it!
My husband and I visited Ober Gatlinburg with my brother and his wife on a very hot day...90s with high humidity. We bought tickets for the tram only. The regular rate is $19 for tram only, but my husband was able to get a military discount (I think 50%) and I was given a 30% discount as his spouse, so for us this was great! We'd been told at the info desk that my brother/wife could have the 30% discount too since they were with us, but the ticket agent said no. I'm guessing that is because they paid separately. Not blaming the ticket agent. Happy for the discount we did receive. The reason for not giving the tram 5 stars is that they herded us into the tram until it was jam-packed full...wall to wall people in a npn-air conditioned tram cooled only by a few fans and open windows on each end. It was so full I couldn't reach a pole to hang on to and the hand holds hanging from the ceiling (simular to city bus) were all taken and too high anyway to provide stability, so I had to cling to my husband to avoid tumbling when the tram swayed. Given the heat, this was not cozy and fun! What little bit I could catch of the view was impressive, but I couldn't enjoy it due to being packed in so tightly and worrying about falling. The ride down was much better...we were almost first in line so we were able to secure a spot at the front by the open window which gave us a great view as well as a breeze. It was again jammed packed full though. The crowd size in the park didn't warrant this. Would have been far better to spread people out! The amusements at the top looked fun, but it was so hot, we didn't want to be out in the sun for those, which is part of why we only bought the tram tickets. The tram only goes part way up the mountain, but there is a chair lift there that will take you to the very top for $10. It was too hot to be in the direct sun that long, but we will do that next time. We discovered you can drive to where the mountain park is, so that's what we'll do if we go back. The "cattle car" feel of the tram is too much of a deterrent! If you can go on a really quiet day, you'll enjoy the tram, but if you see a long line for it, you can expect them to stuff the tram full even on sweltering days.

Only come here for Oktoberfest!
So I only come here for Oktoberfest. If we come in the fall we always go to Ober to eat the German food. We were disappointed in many things( 1. )It took at least 40/45 min for us to get our food (2. )The food is not the same. The delicious pork loin with a apple/nut sauce was not the same as previous years. Yes we know the difference most wouldn’t . The sausage was not the same more like a hot dog than previous years. The bratwurst, potato salad, and krauts tasted the same. By the time we got our food we had been there so long we didnt even want to see the marvelous show. The show starts at 1 pm we got there at 12.10 . We got our food maybe at One pm. We did watch maybe 15/20 min while we ate and then waited for check. They had maybe 3 or 4 servers so we were thinking maybe they only had one cook to account for the long time wait?? (3) They no longer wear their German costumes so the busty girls you see on the pamphlets /website is no more . They wore black shirts/black pants . Now the show is exactly the same as previous years. So if U have been more than once its old /jokes the same. Would We got back since the food isnt the same to us ? It was still ok, away from the craziness of other restaurants in PF , The price comparable to most restaurants
