Haunted Canoe Trip

My friends & I came from Chattanooga to participate in the haunted canoe trip. There was a wait before the next trip would begin even though we arrived 30 minutes before our scheduled 10pm trip. We were not aware that there would be a short hike beforehand and based on the response from the rest of the group, neither were they. The stories are based on true events and not too scary. The storyteller (Sam) was jovial and answered all of our questions as we walked. The canoe portion of the trip is somewhat intimidating if you've never been in a canoe, mainly because of the darkness. Overall it was a fun trip.

Overall good experience, but expect time for waiting + travel
Our family decided to spend an afternoon on the Caney Fork river, and we chose to Canoe the Caney as offered by this business. We did the 9-mile trip from Center Hill Lake to Betty's Island. The prices seemed a little high, but they not out of the typical range for such a trip. Especially if we could have good service and equipment. Overall we had a great time. Everyone from the front desk and transportation was friendly and helpful. It was easy to ask them questions and get answers. The equipment was also in very good shape -- watercraft, paddles, and life jackets. Transportation vehicles were in good shape and there was room for everyone and a few items for the trip. The river itself was really scenic and I highly recommend it. It was a cool 52 degrees coming from the bottom of the dam and it remained that cool throughout the trip. The water was very clear in many areas even to a depth of a few feet. You could see trout and other fish along the the entire route. The river was easy going with no rapids, with several places along the trip where you could stop on the shore for a break. We timed our trip between the power generation times at the dam, and I am sure that ensured a smooth trip. One issue that we had on the river itself (nothing to do with the company) was that there were large numbers of trout fisherman in the river for the first 2-3 miles. It was quite an obstacle course, and sometimes they were blocking the entire river where they were casting. We tried to go around wherever possible to avoid interfering with the fishing, but sometimes the fishermen made it unavoidable. As we approached one fisherman he asked that we take a route through very shallow and marshy water behind him... we had to refuse him, else we would have grounded for sure. So expect that you may come up on some fishermen who are taking a lot of the river and are not very courteous to let watercraft go through where you need to do it. Other experiences with the business: Our appointment was for 11AM, and we arrived at 10:30 as requested on the web site. However we waited to almost 11:30 before transportation arrived to take us to the dam. We are not sure if this was a delay with the company, or if another party ran late. It may be a concern if this is typical and you're on a rather tight schedule. The trip to the drop-off at the dam and the ride back from Betty's Island is a long one. Probably 15 minutes for the drop-off and 25-30 minutes after the pick-up. The business is located a good distance from these points, so significant travel time should be expected. Also it may mean longer wait times for pick-up. One other item is that the price is a little more than the website claims. We made our reservation based on the information on their website and after making a phone call. But when we arrived the total was about $10 more than what we expected. When we asked, there was a "damage waiver" that was added to the cost to cover any possible equipment damage, and it was non-refundable even if everything was returned in the original condition. Even with these inconveniences, we loved the trip and the experience with this company. We would definitely use them again.
