    Wine, food, and fun!
I can't say I was impressed with the drive to Goodwater, though the fault lies within for that-I failed to follow the well marked way, opting for an off-road adventure. Once rolling my dusty car into the parking lot and fearing the worst from the "closed" sign hanging on the fence near the tasting room, I was relieved to hear conversation and laughter from within. We were greeted and shared wine talk with our host between another group, also present for a picnic on the property. Once we had the host to ourselves, we got great information on the wine, the winery, and the winemakers. Our take was that the drive of Goodwater was not to make wine for the masses, but to make good wine for people that like local, well made products. The biggest difference between Goodwater and other local wines I've tried was the sweetness level. The wines were all just right. Our picnic was to start at 2:00 but it was around 4:00 by the time we made it to our feast. This is mostly from the time we sat and talked as a group. It wasn't until our stomachs reminded us that it was well past lunch time did this become an issue. We purchased a bottle of wine to have with the picnic and three more to take home. The picnic was amazing, with the preselected items prepared and displayed for our enjoyment. The best by far was the tomato pie. Unlike anything we had ever had and the topic of conversation and longing on the drive home. Joining the pie were pasta with chicken; grilled beef wrapped asparagus, and an artichoke dip. The dip was my least favorite but was, by no means, bad. It was a Groupon deal that led us to Goodwater, but it will be the quality of the wine, food, and folk that will take us back!

    Anniversary Weekend
Many of the reviews on here are from people who are very experienced with wine. Me and my wife stopped here with almost no experience and was somewhat worried how the experience would be. We were extremely pleased and Laura made us feel very comfortable while we tasted the wines, patiently informing us about each one. Purchased two bottles of the red muscadine and one white. Definitely plan to make a trip back here in the future with hopes of reserving one of the picnic dinners.
