Frozen Head State Park, Tennessee, United States

4.5 (101 reviews) Spent More than 3 hours Ranking #1 in Wartburg State Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas

Beautiful, quiet campground.

24000 acres of wilderness and one of the tallest peaks on the Cumberland Plateau are some of the attractive points of this park. At the summit of Frozen Head is a 360 degree observation deck. There is some camping and a mountain biking trail. More information on this park and many more can be found at the TN State Parks website.

    A favorite park
Four of us camped in the main campground for the weekend and loved every minute. The camping spots were spacious, and each provided a grill, fire ring, and picnic table. Hiking trails are well maintained and the hikes were beautiful—most of ours had water views almost the entire time. The bath house was clean and attractive, and rangers clean it twice daily. The rangers are friendly and helpful. There is a little book hut which we enjoyed, and although we weren’t traveling with young children, my kids would have loved it. There are also nice playgrounds, and the streams offered lots of places which kids would love to play in. Our fellow campers observed the 10pm quiet time, which we appreciated. We can’t wait to go back!

    Campsite review
Best campsite for tent camping. I adore lots 19 and 20 because they overlook the creek, but be aware that if you have children there is a high dropoff. No water or electric, so no RVs and almost none of the sites are rented because park has no pool or restaurant. Bathhouse is one of the best I have seen in Tennessee State Parks and is absolutely clean. No firewood for purchase at this park, nor any in campsite firewood bin. Main hiking trail from campsite is strenuous with a 2.5 mile hike uphill. If this park had better hiking trails, it would be my absolute favorite.
