    A hidden jewel in Memphis
A lifelong Memphian yet I had never visited the Dixon Gallery and Gardens prior to this past weekend. I have driven by the treelined entrance many times and always said I would like to go, I'm very glad that I finally did! The gardens and grounds around the gallery are incredible, its springtime so everything is in bloom. It was a true explosion of color, very well maintained and operated. The gardens alone are worth the trip. The gallery is set in a mansion and contain many priceless pieces, I honestly didn't know that we could visit a museum with Rodin, Monet etc without having to travel a great distance. We will be back.

A must-see site for lovers of French Impressionism art!
Our first visit to the Dixon! I had learned about this museum through a friend who told me about their French Impressionism and Post-Impressionism collection. So when we happened to be passing through Memphis for the first time in years with limited time to see sites, the Dixon was a must-visit stop. It was a sunny Friday afternoon in early October when we stopped by to see the Dixon collection displayed within the Dixon house turned museum. And it was worth the visit! Monet, Degas, Renoir, Seurat, Cezanne, Matisse, plus works by American artists John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, among others. Even saw some beautiful works by artists new to me. All set in the simple Dixon home. Totally enjoyed the special exhibition Meet the Dixons as well as the Sporting Fashion: Outdoor Girls 1800 to 1960 exhibit. Very interesting and very well done!! We checked out the gardens but it was late in the season so not much to see other than their Fall/Halloween decor which was very pretty!
