Architecture & Grounds

The architecture of this 1905 structure is intriguing. The use of stone should be of interest, along with the clock tower. On the grounds is a gazebo, constructed for the countries bi-centenniel in 1976, and is regularly used for announcements, gatherings, music and more. Also on the grounds of a replica multi-directional sign post that stood at a downtown crossroads in the early 1900's. On the opposite site of the grounds is an 1870's (?) steam engine, the first in this county.

    Structure
If you are interested in old courthouses, this one that's well over a 100, is worth a tour. There are a few interesting displays inside, but the treat is to walk around the building and do a close inspection of the stonework. The shapes at the corners made me think castle parapets...I know...odd thought for a government building, but the design sure beats a plan square building. It has a clock tower, also part of the original building. The County Mayor's office had a lady who answered, very courteously, our questions about the building history, also.

A Little Bit of Local History
Even though it’s still called a Courthouse, all cases are now tried at the justice center. But!! It’s a neat place to visit. The photo’s on the walls are interesting and the entry pictures are very special.
