Collierville TN Historic District, Tennessee, United States

Outstanding - especially if you are a history buff

We had a few things planned for our time in Memphis - unfortunately, construction forced road closures made getting around rather difficult. Added to that Mud Island being closed ruled that out SO, at the recommendation of the Visitors center off we headed to Collierville. Wow was that worth the trip. We parked at the Historic Town square and spent about 45 minutes wandering around reading the information boards and taking lots of photos. As I was walking under the pergola in the square I heard bell chiming out the tune to Winter Wonderland. It plays on the hour it seems. From here we ventured to the Morton Museum in the old Christian Church. This is chock full of the history of the town and region. Plenty of photos, memorabilia, stories etc and the staff are great. They have period outfits that you can take your picture with so even kids will enjoy this museum. I would highly recommend a visit to both the historic square AND the Morton Museum at the Church

    Town square
It was voted America's best town square for a reason- it has stores, restaurants, businesses, places to congregate, meet with friends, music on Thursday and Friday nights that is free to anyone who wants to come and listen. They also have cruise on the square for car lovers on the 3rd Thursdays of the month. Very beautifully decorated at anytime of the year!

Sister birthday trip, stopped here on our way back home
Very nice town. Not far from downtown Beale street. You could stay in this town and drive ashort way. Clean, the town square has nice shops and restaurants. Very quaint and just plan relaxing. If you are not hungry just sit on benches and people watch.
