    FIRST TIME ON A HOUSEBOAT
We rented a houseboat from Beach Island Marina for our vacation this year, We were traveling with 2 families (4 adults and 4 kids) We had never rented a houseboat so was not sure what to expect. We checked in on a Monday and our houseboat was ready (even half an hour before check-in time). The people at the Marina were friendly and helpful! They helped us load our pontoon boat with all of our luggage and items. This was exhausting. They drove the houseboat out to a location for us and set us up in a nice private cove. Lake Norris was very clean and beautiful. Upon entering the house boat, it seemed roomy. The beds were ok but the linens were dated. We slept fine each night. The kitchen had all the items we would need pots, pans, knives, etc. The kitchen table was big but the chairs for the table and breakfast bar were so super heavy we could barely move them. I would say cleanliness was not a strong point on the boat, which grossed me out because each time I took a plate off the shelf it was dirty. I liked the hardwood flooring near the dishwasher but the rug areas (living room and dining room) seemed gross and worn and I never walked barefoot on it. The fridge smelled terrible of fish and we needed to clean it and also go to the nearby store for baking soda in order to get the smell out. The grill was terrible (they could use a new one on the boat we rented- but it did it's job) The toaster was picky and the fans and AC worked great the whole week. One thing I loved was that we never needed bug spray. I am not sure how we never saw a mosquito the whole week. Sadly, there was a lot of trash on the little island that we were roped up to - people should learn to clean up after themselves so to protect the beautiful Lake we were on. One of my favorite things was swimming in the lake- and watching the wild life- saw lots of cranes and herons. My husband and kids did a lot of fishing- catching catfish, perch, sunfish, and large mouth bass. The thing my kids liked best was the waterslide off the back of the boat- they did it over and over for hours- and provided so much entertainment. My biggest complaint is the WIFI- it was terrible and non-existent. The only time I had service was at the Marina. All in all we had a good time and it kind of reminded me of glamourous camping.

A Little Kindness Goes A Long Way
I've been coming to this marina to rent a pontoon boat for the last 4 years. The lake and surrounding area is beautiful and I feel like the water is clean. The pontoon boats are decent. I've had some boats better than others, but all were good for a day on the lake with friends. The main thing I do want to mention is, the person that books the reservations (whether it be a man or woman) is never really friendly. I remember a few years ago there was a man at the front desk and he wasn't very nice (or helpful), and on my most recent visit the woman at the front desk was not very nice either. She was very straightforward and to the point. I would hope for just a little more kindness and good customer service. Other than that, I love coming here. It's my most loved "staycation" all year.
