Dinner And A Show

I don't like cafeteria food. I don't like stream table mass produced blue plate dinners. BUT The show was good enough to make it more than worth it. The food really was not that bad. It was good. The atmosphere was worth it, the production was even better. I'm not gonna spoil it other than to tell you that the cast deserves your best tip.

    The musicals are so professional!
We just saw Clue the Musical here and it was amazing! It was interactive with the audience and they were awesome about myself being in a wheelchair. we were allowed access a few minutes before everyone else in order to choose where to sit. We sat on one of the entry landings and they brought my husband a chair. There was no bad place to sit because of the way it was set up. The set, lighting, and music were very top notch. Actors were awesome!

    A Surprise Wrapped in Nostalgia
My wife bought me tickets for a concert by English Rain...another tribute band - Beatles. My wife's boss is a local attorney and said..."He's gonna love it!" A few days before we went, my wife hurt her back and so that left my sister and me to attend. First of all...remember, this is a tiny venue tucked away in the Appalachian chain foothills...absolutely beautiful. The little Arts Center is just off the main highway...we missed it and had to turn around. My sister looked at me and said..."Well, here we are!" The center is typical for a backwoods/limited budget venue in rural US of A. There were art objects for sale, local foods, and our favorite: woven baskets displayed (not for sale). We arrived early for a 7:30 PM performance, but it was nice to sit in a couple of rocking chairs in the main gallery looking at the 100's of black and white photos displayed on the walls...with no discernable layout. Some were very good. We entered rhe theater (holds 200?), perching on the stage right group of padded chairs - there are 3 areas to watch, left, center and right. Enter five guys. No...no dress up Beatle getup, but all with mics. A drummer, a keyboard guy, and 3 guitar front men with a dozen guitars...and a sitar (yes...one of those...for my fav Norwegian Wood). They opened with "Please Please Me". Now understand that these guys are not 23...OK? But, they are so good that you are drawn into the history of the Beatles (which English Rain reminds you of all during their performance)...Ah, did I say good...English Rain is actually excellent....and they GOT BETTER as we warmed up to them. We sang, clapped, whistled. And we all just loved the whole evening. At about intermission time...a circuit breaker failed and they graciously asked for a ten minute break. That done..we cruised through album covers and flashbacks on the screen behind them...all choreographed with the drummer yelling out the beat. They ended with one of the last two songs on Abbey Road...(Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight). Awesome. So much craftmanship in Englush Rain...you know these guys love (and can play nearly every Beatle song listed)... The Beatles! We all rose to our feet and back they came for "Hey Jude" to the audience singing along. And then they were gone. It was 10 PM when we left...yep, nearly 2 1/2 hours of wonderful music. We'll be back to this venue to support the arts to relax...in Nostalgia Lane, and hope to see English Rain again...soon!
