"BigD Premium Screen dark picture issues still haven't been fixed after all these years."
I live 45 minutes from Carmike Foothills 12 and I've gone to this theatre many times with friends for several years now, The BigD screen was the talk of the town back when it was announced that it would be installed in the new Maryville Carmike, we went and saw the 1st movie on that screen which was John Carter and during the movie I complained how blurry and dark the movie was, a manager mentioned that it was the 1st movie shown and they apologized and offered the money back and I declined, it was watchable and the sound was incredible, so I left a little let down by the viewing experience, since then went to see many more movies in other auditoriums and the picture was always clear and crisp with excellent sound, but when ever I've gone to see a BigD showing it's always been the same issue, a darker and less sharpened picture vs. any other auditorium there, someone who works there said the problem with the BigD screen was that they never installed the Chrystie Air conditioner that goes on or over the projector that blows cold air and if they crank up the lumens (the brightness of the picture) the projector overheats and shuts off, I asked well then how could you be charging a premium price for a screening that's supposed to be better than HD and showing it at a quality that is inferior to any other auditorium in this establishment, a simplified answer from the man in the suit and tie was "I've told them for years now that they need to fix the problem." finally this last week I went to see Logan in the BigD and same issue, great sound poor picture, my girlfriend who lives in Maryville wanted to see the new Kong Skull Island movie and I told her any auditorium there is fine except the BigD screen, if you ever want to see what BigD was supposed to be then look no further than Pinnacle's RPX screen, other than the ongoing problem with the BigD screen in this theatre every other auditorium is good to excellent

    Design Flaws & Screen Issues
Visit from 2013: Horrible design flaw with the one room we were in. The screen reflected the light from the projector causing a white out reflection on the screen. This occurred throughout the movie even in dark scenes. Another issue, the bottom of the screen is out of focus. We visited during school hours so the crowd was at a minimum. Everything else was ok and a much needed improvement from the run down theater. I assume they put all there money into their display area for their servers though. No automatic sinks in the restrooms. I bet that's got to be a huge mess through the typical weekend. Revisit Jan 2016: Still not much to report other than the same screen reflection problem. Discovered another major complaint. Like most theaters during the pre show and trailers the sound is in simple stereo and the curtain is closed somewhat. When the movie starts, the curtain opens wider and the audio changes to the much louder 7.1 or higher quality. So far with three movies and three different rooms we've experienced the curtain not opening and the audio not changing. When it was brought to one of the employees attention they explained, that it was normal. Funny how we pay a ton of money and we get treated like we are stupid. I could have watched these films at home with better audio quality coming from my soundbar.
