The Parola Armour Museum, Tavastia Proper, Finland

4.5 (73 reviews) Sunday: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM Spent Ranking #1 in Parola Military Museums • Speciality Museums

Great place for small boys (and even bigger boys)

Really big and spectacular tank museum. There are probably about 100 tanks in the museum, some of which are in the outdoor area. There is also one special tank (T-26 from year 1933) in the museum, the only surviving tank of that type in the world. A couple of hours in the museum goes so fast because there is so much to see. There is also one armored train in museum. The children especially liked the tanks where they could climb on or go inside. There is also a café with fantastic jelly donut on sale.

    Enjoyed
My partner is very much into tanks so he very much enjoyed himself. Spent quite a few hours here. Plenty to see. Nice cafe for a bite to eat and drink. Also purchased a few items for the gift shop.

It could have been so much better!
An armoury museum is very dependent of the objects’ restoration quality. Unfortunately the Parola Armoury Museum, which is full of very attractive objects, many of the tanks and other vehicles cannot be found other places, but so much material being stored outdoors and subjected to all natural forces, this has had a strong impact on the vehicles displayed. Accepting that this is a museum of little means, the solution is normally to depend on volunteers and good neighbours – and the area holds several military establishments with qualified personnel. We were a group of military veterans from several countries, some of us with museum background. We were amazed of the number of vehicles displayed and of the information given. But as stated, conservation is a must as well as display. Favourite? The part of a train, on its rails on top of the area. How did you manage to get it up there?
