Another masterpiece of A. Aalto
I believe this church is worth visiting. A brick building created by the most famous Finnish architect has lots of windows making its roomy hall light and airy. There is a cross made of 52 little windows decorating the facade - quite an exciting hint (Ristinkirkko means "the Holy Cross Church"). If loitering around the town you stop for a while to admire the church ( both outside and inside) you will not regret!

Alvar Aalto church
The Church of the Cross is designed by the famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. It was built in 1978. From outside it is not the prettiest churches in Finland. The building is dominated by a cross design formed by 52 windows and a massive belfry of concrete. The beautiful interior has a triangular form which directs the attention towards the altar. The interior has the same vibe as you can feel in the Finlandia House in Helsinki. The sculpture Spirit of Freedom by Wäinö Aaltonen stands in the cemetery for the war dead. The Lahti International Organ Festival is held here.
