    Transported back in time
We visited the Palander house on the recommendation from a lady in the Sibelius museum. What a wonderful little museum, the house dates back to the 1800's and is set out in the time period of the turn of the last century. There is an enterance fee of about 5 euros. We were met by our guide dressed in period costume of the late 1800's, you can only visit the house with a guided tour which takes place about every half an hour. Shoe covers are provided and there is an option of taking a small chair with you to sit on in each room as the guide explains things. The house consists of about 8 rooms, we started in the reception room where the guide told the history of the building. She explained about the items around the room, before we moved into room 2, which was a kind of bedroom, she explained about the habits of the time and told stories of the family who lived there. From here we moved into the third room, which was the dining room. A table was set out for Sunday dinner, she explained about all the different foods set out on the table as well as the origins of the different cutlery. The next room was a kind of lounge or meeting room with plants and furniture from the time period. The next room had copper cooking utensils and our guide explained their different uses and purposes. The Children's room was next, all kinds of period toys and the childrens clothes, as well as a nice dolls world in a cupboard. The last room was the kitchen with a big wood oven to cook on and again examples of different cakes and bread which they would have cooked at the time. I must explain that all the food products where not real but imitation although they did look very real. Our guide was excellent she made the tour very interesting with her knowledge and facts mixed with stories of the family life of the time. The whole tour took about an hour perhaps because it seemed that our guide wanted to tell everything. I enjoyed every minute.

    A memorable visit
A guided tour of this museum is made, explaining all the customs of a traditional Finnish family from the end of the 19th century. All museum pieces are well preserved and restored, including the house. An interesting visit
