Amazing wilderness experience

We stayed overnight on the Stormbreaker yacht up the Gordon River with our two friends. Skipper Trev, Rob and Raff were wonderful hosts. We left at 1pm, had afternoon tea to the sultry commentary from Trev and sailed into the Gordon River around 5pm. We were served a two course dinner while motoring up the Gordon River watching the majestic forest pass by. A truly spectacular place. This yacht has permission to go the furthest up the Gordon River of any charter vessels as it picks up rafters that have completed the Franklin river the next morning. The yacht has two double rooms (one a bit smaller than the other) where we slept. While we had the yacht to ourselves the afternoon before, it was very squeezy coming back with an extra 30 onboard and all their gear. I wouldn’t stop that from anyone experiencing this for themselves… truly amazing.

    Peaceful World Heritage Tour
We were having the best coffee at the Coffee Shack in Strahan, when Trevor(skipper) and Rob(deputy skipper) on the “Stormbreaker”, docked in our view at the Strahan wharf after returning from a trip up the Gordon. Within 45 minutes we had finished our coffee, googled the “Stormbreaker” cruise, booked an overnight trip, grabbed our gear and boarded the boat to take the 1pm trip on the next motor/sailing experience across Macquarie Harbour and up the Gordon River, well beyond the licence permit of the larger commercial operators, to stay at Sir John Falls for the night and to collect rafters connecting from their Franklin River thrills. For us it was a chance encounter and it resulted in a bucket list memory. Rob is quiet, knowledgeable and served good basic fare for dinner, breakfast and lunch. Trevor never failed to fill in a silence with information, history lessons and local stories-with some embellishment!! The boat is equipped to take up to 12 passengers, has reasonable space and will present travellers with rarely seen wilderness, World Heritage insights and a journey of memories. Next time we will take our family, down to grandchildren. Like all businesses, post Covid, this business needs your support. It is one worth supporting, it is memorable and you won’t forget it. Take a camera, a bottle or two of wine and sit back and enjoy the remote beauty for 24 hours. Money well spent.

Brilliant overnight stay on the Gordon
Take a beautiful steel hulled sailing ship, skipper it with a passionate and knowledgeable captain (Trevor) and crew it with a quiet but friendly experienced sailor and cook (Rob), and then send the lot through the magnificent Macquarie Harbour and up the spectacular Gordon River. This made for a brilliant 24 hour experience. We had comfortable sleeping arrangements and good shipboard food. What made the trip for me was the passion that Trevor has for everything he does. Explaining the wind and his boat when we were travelling at 7 knots with just the wind, or explaining the history of the area through to his detailed knowledge of the vegetation and the river. Our return journey included returning rafters and a group of kayakers. This just added to the trip as we heard stories of their adventures. If you have the time, you absolutely should do this trip. Thanks to Trevor & Rob. Michael, Tracy, Chareen & Deo
