Lake St. Clair, Tasmania, Australia
4.5 (406 reviews) Spent Ranking #5 in Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park Bodies of Water
Beautiful!
Lovely deep water lake. The water is cold and clear. From the visitors centre you have a number of walks with the easier ones just a hour, the more strenuous 4/5 hours. The lake is very picturesque and changes with the time of day and cloud cover. Images of Pump House Point can be seen across much of the lower lake. While a water taxi is available from the jetty at the visitor centre to take you to echo Point and beyond.

Beautiful lake, excellent Visitor Centre
Lake St Clair is Australia's deepest lake - an incredible 270 metres and was carved out by a massive glacier tens of thousands of years ago. We took the ferry from Narcissus to the Visitor Centre at Cynthia Bay. In some ways the views of the lake were a little underwhelming from the ferry, except for the extraordinary sight of the massive, domineering Mt Olympus. If anything, I thought the views of the lake from the Visitor Centre were a bit better (barring Mt Olympus). Also found the Visitor Centre itself really good - helpful staff, well-presented displays, a decent gift/book shop, and not the least clean toilets.

Beautiful and peaceful
This lake is hidden away in Cradle Mountain National Park and is very quiet and restful location. There is ample parking, bbq/picnic area, accomodation lodges and a cafe in the grounds. If your a keen swimmer, you can take a swim in the deepest fresh water lake in Australia. National Park entry fees apply
