Stopped in the Church for a beautiful Palm Sunday mass. I stopped in the Saturday Vigil. I am so happy I did. The interior of the church is magnificent and the acoustics is outstanding. The church is surrounded with beautiful stain glass windows and a terrific alter. It was a nice experience to have visiting Tampa. I also enjoyed reading about its history. The Spanish explorers of the 1500s brought Catholicism to the area. In 1859, a little frame church was erected on the site of the present Sacred Heart Church. It was blessed on Trinity Sunday and named St. Louis Parish. The first Catholic parish in the Tampa area. The parish and the Tampa area grew, thanks to Henry Plants railroad, which caused a need for a bigger church. Ground was broken for the new church on February 16, 1898. The new structure was dedicated on January 15, 1905, and its name and that of the parish became Sacred Heart.See more..
